1. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive and store your name, email address, and profile photo (if available from your Google account).

Profile information

When you set up your profile, we collect your role (Student, Class Advisor, Head of Department, or Subject Teacher), your department, your batch or academic year, and your selected institution.

Content you share

Files, documents, study materials, and messages you upload or send within your class groups.

Usage information

Basic app performance and crash data collected through Firebase, used to keep the app reliable.

2. How we use your information

• To authenticate you and maintain your account
• To connect you with the correct college, department, batch, and class groups
• To show your name and role to other members of your class groups, so classmates and teachers know who shared what
• To provide core features such as semester organization, file sharing, and group access
• To maintain and improve the app's reliability and performance

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for advertising.

3. Third-party services

Google Firebase

We use Firebase for authentication, our database (Firestore), and certain account actions such as account deletion. Firebase's handling of data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Cloudinary

Files and documents you upload to class groups are stored using Cloudinary, a third-party file hosting service.

Google Sign-In

Used solely to verify your identity and create your account. We don't access anything beyond your basic profile information.

4. Data sharing within the app

Your name, role, department, and batch are visible to other members of your class groups within the same institution — this is how the app connects you with your classmates and teachers. We don't share your personal information with anyone outside your institution's groups, except where required by law.

5. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on Google's Firebase infrastructure, which includes industry-standard security measures. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of electronic storage is completely secure. Your data is scoped to your institution — users from different institutions cannot access each other's data.

6. Data retention and account deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. When you do:

• Your profile information — name, email, department, batch, and role — is permanently deleted
• Your Google Sign-In link to the app is removed, and you can no longer log in with that account
• Files or messages you previously shared in class groups may remain visible to group members as shared resources, but are no longer associated with your identity

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

7. Children's privacy

ClassConnect is intended for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a user under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll take steps to remove it.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, or request deletion of your account and associated data (see Section 6). To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
